It's 10pm and I'm Eating Dinner. Deal With It.

Good evening, readers!

I am currently enjoying a giant bowl of Rice Krispies. And it's 10 at night. I've read so many conflicting articles on the "eating before bed" debate that I have no idea what to believe on this subject. What I do know is that I haven't eaten dinner and I refuse to go to bed hungry.

It's not like I was even doing anything exciting. I got home from Zumba around 8, and then I putzed around on the internet for a couple hours without even realizing how much time had gone by! For someone who usually goes to bed at 9, that's really weird. But I got some free wedding invitation samples in the mail today and now I am really engrossed with all the options...

Anyway, today was just another classic Kayti day. Got up at 4:30, went to BodyPump at 5:30 (which seemed extra hard today. Can sunburn make you tired?) went to work, went to Zumba, and came home. Honestly both my workouts felt extra hard today. At BodyPump we did tricep dips again and my triceps burn after doing a dozen or so of those. At Zumba I felt so hot I had sweat getting in my eyes (which stings, by the way.) Maybe it just felt hard after a lazy weekend. But man did I need it!

On to today's quick stats:
Steps taken: 19,000
Calories burned: 3550
Calories consume: 1350
Hours slept: 6 hours 5 min

Ouch on the sleep, there! It doesn't help when you had a long weekend and got used to sleeping in, then all the sudden have to get up at 4:30am.

And to think I didn't accept an invitation to a work week challenge on FitBit because I thought I was too lazy on Monday to compete for the rest of the week. I should have challenged myself to beat everyone in only 4 days instead of 5!

Well, nothing else exciting here. Tomorrow is normally rest day but I think I used that up on Monday. So I'll figure out some exciting activity to do.

Until then, readers.

Happy Memorial Day!

Good evening, readers!

And a happy Memorial Day to every one!

I hope you had a fabulous time remembering and celebrating the lives of the brave loved ones who gave their lives for our country.

We had a very good time at the cabin over the last two days. We spent plenty of time sunbathing on the pontoon, hanging out in the hot tub, and of course eating and drinking.

It's never a bad day when this is your view.

Although I have to say, I did basically zero exercise and ate waaaay too much. In fact, on Sunday night I was logging all the food I ate that day to see if I could allow myself some ice cream. Both days I wasn't too terrible with my calorie count, remaining below 2,000. Which leads me to believe that I at least haven't gained weight in the last two days.

The little bit of exercise I did do came in the form of paddle boarding. It was my first time, and I found it rather enjoyable!

That's me out there in the middle of the lake, getting my paddle on!  Also getting my sunburn on, but that's beside the point.

Hopefully I haven't sabotaged myself too much this weekend. I am fully planning on getting right back on track tomorrow with a two-a-day consisting of 5:30am BodyPump and some evening Zumba.

Until then, readers.

Weigh In: Week 14

Good evening, readers!

It is a milestone day for me today. This week, I lost 2 pounds!

That brings my grand total to 20 pounds lost!

It also means that I am 1/3 of my way to my goal of losing 60 pounds before my wedding.

It took me about 3 months (14 weeks=98 days) to reach this milestone. If I can do my math correctly (and that's always questionable) it will take me another 200 days to reach my goal. But my wedding is in 330 days (roughly). Which means I have an extra 130 days to either lose more weight, or catch up if I don't quite reach my goal.

I know that it will become more difficult, and I may eventually plateau. But we will deal with that when the time comes!

So obviously we have not gone out of town yet, mostly because of the weather. We plan on going tomorrow morning and enjoying the two nice, sunny days we will have. Which means I definitely won't be posting tomorrow. That's probably for the best, considering I will probably not exercise much or eat as well as I should (hopefully I will at least exercise my willpower).

Today's quick stats:
Steps taken: 12000
Calories burned: 3000
Calories consumed: too many.

I did really well on my intake until dinner. I had a bowl of Rice Krispies for breakfast, avocado on toast for lunch, and popcorn for a snack. But I was absolutely craving carbs, so Bill made me pasta and salad for dinner. To be completely honest it probably wasn't as high-calorie as I thought it was. But it was still more calories than I normally consume in a day, and I feel more full right now than I usually do.

I did go to my normal Saturday morning workouts: BodyPump at 8 and Zumba at 9:10. I was shocked at how crowded the classes were today! I thought the holiday weekend would keep people away, but it seems this was not the case.

After that I went shopping to get drinks for the cabin and buy an outfit for our engagement photos, which are next weekend! So long as the weather cooperates, anyway.

And that's the excitement over here! I spent the rest of the day watching the Disney Channel Original Movie marathon and reminiscing about the times we thought these movies were good.

Until tomorrow, readers.

Earned It!

Good evening, readers!

I'm so happy it has finally cooled down! I have a feeling I will sleep much better tonight. I forgot to report my sleep yesterday; it was only 7 hours. I was tired this morning, which prompted me to stop at Starbucks for a venti iced coffee. As my coworkers can attest, I was nuts the rest of the day.

Did anyone else think that today went incredibly slowly? Until the last hour of work, when everyone freaked out, it was very, very slow. But that always seems to happen before a holiday weekend. Otherwise today was just a normal Friday.

After work Bill and I usually go to the Y to workout, but when I got home Bill wasn't feeling well. I have already been to the Y 16 times this month, so I decided to try a different workout instead. I made a deal with myself: if I could run 5K without stopping, I would let myself have ice cream at Culver's. I've been doing tons of cardio lately, so I didn't think it would be too difficult. I'm hoping anyone else who runs regularly can attest to this: The first two kilometers seemed pretty easy. The second two kilometers seemed really difficult. The last kilometer wasn't that hard, but it just went really slowly. Kind of like work today.

I'll have you know I did finish. It wasn't fast, about 38 minutes, but I finished and I didn't stop. Even when I got kind of lost from running my usual route backward (my lack of directional sense is astounding) I just kept running in the direction I thought I should be going until I saw something familiar. And I did reward myself with a scoop of ice cream at Culver's. To be honest, I was probably going to do that anyway. But at least this way I earned it.

Today's quick stats:
Steps taken: 16500
Calories burned: 3150
Calories consumed: 1450
Sleep: 7hrs 30min

With tomorrow's weigh in looming, I'm actually feeling pretty good about it. You just never know, really. Last week I wasn't feel very optimistic, but I lost three pounds. Only time will tell, I guess.

Until then, readers.

Never Skip Weight Day

Good evening, readers!

Man, there were Doritos and guac at work today. Don't worry, I only ate a few. Because I know your nightly entertainment hinges on whether or not I ate those Doritos at work today. But it is 9:20 and I am just eating dinner now because of Bill's softball games. And I am starving! Should've eaten more Doritos.

This morning was BodyPump at 5:30. I missed it on Tuesday, so I haven't done any weight lifting since last Saturday (5 days ago!).  I didn't think missing just one class would affect me that much, but holy ouch do I hurt. We did tricep dips and pushups, and now I can barely lift my arms over my head. Trying to wash my hair is a feat in itself.

But I'm managing, and it feels good to see some progress. I can add a bit more weight to my bar for almost all of the muscle groups (except triceps and chest, it seems).

I'm also just feeling thinner these days. That might sound weird, but I think I just have more confidence now. When I look in the mirror I see positive things about myself instead of negative. Which, for someone who has lived for the past 10 years criticizing herself in every photo, this is a pretty big turnaround. Imagine how annoyingly gleeful I will be at the end of this?

Anyway, I really should get to bed. So here are today's quick stats:

Steps taken: 13,500
Calories burned: 3100
Calories consumed: 1400 (including the ice cream bar I plan to eat after I finish dinner).

I might have an early weigh-in tomorrow (instead of normal Saturdays) because of the holiday weekend, but we will just have to play it by ear. And if someone could explain to me what "play it by ear" means, that would be fantastic.

Well it's off to bed with me!

Until tomorrow, readers.

Still Accountable

Good evening, readers!

It's going to be a short one today, as I have to be honest: nothing really happened.

Went to work, came home, worked out, ate dinner. Every day the same, really. I thought about not even posting, but with the possibility of being out of town this weekend and missing some posts, I figured I'd better get them in while I can.

I feel like I've been sticking to my diet better and better as this goes on, which is weird since I thought the urge to cheat would become overwhelming and I would lose willpower. Today was kind of a picture-perfect day in the life of my diet, so I will lay it out for you:

Breakfast: Banana & oatmeal (no sugar, usually w/ flax).
Snack: Apple & 24oz H20
Lunch: Salad w/ cucumber and carrot and 1 tbsp lite ranch dressing, low-fat yogurt, sugar-free fruit cup. (Today I also had a giant pickle from Jimmy John's, but that's not part of my normal lunch)
Snack: Fiber one bar, sometimes a tootsie pop, and 24 oz H20
Dinner: Lean cuisine, 1/2 cup cottage cheese
Dessert: 1 cup raspberries w/ 1 cup almond milk

A few things I've learned from tracking my food so closely: I'm probably not getting enough protein. I eat chicken for dinner sometimes in a stir-fry or fajita, but otherwise I'm getting my protein from other sources like beans, nuts, and cheeses. But I'm not eating enough of those protein substitutes to make it to my "daily recommended value" either. So there's something to work on.

I'll be honest, I'm tired of tracking every single thing I eat. Sometimes it's a pain to take the time out of my day, especially when I'm at work, to find every food on my app and track it. But I keep doing it so I keep myself accountable.

Today's quick stats:
Steps taken: 15,400
Calories burned: 3100
Calories consumed: 1300

So here I am, doing the best I can to remain accountable to everyone, but mostly to myself.

Until tomorrow, readers.

Looking For a Pianist!

Good evening, readers.

Thank goodness the worst day of the week is almost over. I might actually hate Tuesdays more than Mondays... because at least on Mondays you can talk about Game of Thrones and such. But seriously though, that Game of Thrones episode this week... what the even heck?

Anywho, a mostly normal day was had today. Got up, walked the dog, carpooled to work with Bill (saving all the gas), gave Bug back to Darla (boo), worked, came home, went to Zumba. You know, all the stuff I normally do. I'm starting to really get in to the Tuesday night Zumba class; I like the instructor because it's super athletic but we're still dancing. Some instructors forget that Zumba is supposed to be a dance class that burns calories, not an aerobics class that incorporates a few dance moves.

In all of that mundane activity, Bill did catch me doing something incredibly brave and heroic today:

I know it might be hard to see in the photo, but in my right hand is my critter catcher! You might remember I mentioned this contraption about a month ago when it arrived on our doorstep as a surprise to me. Well, I finally got to use it for the first time! There was a teeny-tiny spider on the wall going up the stairs to the kitchen, and I knew it was finally time to don my suit of armor and arm myself for battle. I grabbed my weapon of choice, the critter catcher, and snatched that guy right up! He was really small, too, maybe about the size of a pea? But that thing grabbed him and he couldn't move at all! At least I think he couldn't. Then I ran outside in a blaze of glory and freed the spider on the patio. He immediately crawled away, so I knew he didn't get squished to death. 10/10, best As-Seen-On-TV item I've purchased since my Pajama Jeans. So at least I know if I am ever home alone I can defend myself.

On to today's quick stats:
Steps taken: 18,000
Calories burned: 3250
Calories consumed: 1340
Sleep: 7 hrs 20 minutes

I'm definitely not getting enough sleep during the week, but I think it's because it's so dang hot. I refuse to turn on the AC until at least June. I mean we live in Minnesota for a reason. But otherwise stats are looking good!

In wedding-planning land, we are currently looking for a pianist to play during our ceremony. Our church has given us options, but it's always more memorable with a family member or friend playing. If anyone has any ideas, I'm open!

On that note (pun intended) I'm off to hopefully get more sleep than I did last night.

Until then, readers.

Cheerleader Pose!

Good evening, readers!

So it hasn't rained yet. I've been waiting for it all day. At least the threat of rain has cooled it down somewhat. We have our windows wide open, catching every breeze we can until it starts coming down.

Today was just another classic Kayti day, although it also included a dog. As well all know, a dog makes every day better!

I walked the dog, went to work, went to Zumba, came home and walked the dog again, and now I'm eating dinner. I know it doesn't sound like much, but all of that totaled just under 20,000 steps for the day. That's a great way to start out a work week challenge on FitBit!

Today was the last night of Monday night Zumba until the fall. Sad. A couple of the new friends I made in Zumba and I took a photo together to let our favorite instructor know we were thinking about her:

because she likes to end every song with this cheerleader pose.

So today's quick stats:
Steps taken: 20,000
Calories burned: 3400
Calories consumed: 1300

I am sad I have to give my temporary dog back tomorrow. He's a great motivator to get outside and get moving. Sometimes I think we should get our own dog, but I also enjoy laying in bed without having to worry about taking the dog out, or having a weekend getaway without having to find someone to watch the dog. Maybe someday, but not today.

The only other exciting news is that Bill is going to some sort of 3M seminar class/thing on the UofM campus, which means it's carpool time! I've never been more excited to save gas in my life. #youknowyouregettingoldwhen.

Until tomorrow, readers.

Weigh In: Week 13

Good evening, readers!

It feels as though summer may finally be upon us! I did my best to take advantage of the sunshine and spent a lot of time outside today. It looked something like this:

7am: Walk the dog
8am: BodyPump
9am: Zumba
10:30am: Walk the dog
11:30 am: Read a book on the deck
12:30 pm: Take a nap
3pm: Walk the dog
5pm: Go shopping
6pm: Eat dinner
7pm: Read a book
8pm: Walk the dog
9pm: Write a blog!

As you can see, I took that darn dog for FOUR walks today. The first, second, and fourth walks were only about a mile each, but the third walk was over three miles. We were only a couple blocks from home when Bug decided he had enough:

And laid down in front of a tree and refused to move until he saw a bike go by. I think I might have said in a previous blog that I was going to "walk that dog until one of us falls over." Looks like I won this time!

I was doing so much that I ate very little throughout the day, consuming only about 600 calories before dinner. For dinner, though, I had a splurge: Red Savoy's! My all-time favorite pizza. I had been craving pizza for weeks and finally gave in as a reward for my big weight loss this week.

Oh yeah: I lost THREE pounds this week! Last week I said I would shoot for two this week... crushed it! Although I must remember that my scale at home isn't super accurate, that's what it said! I was pretty excited, considering I didn't have much confidence after the donut situation on Tuesday. Success!

Quick stats for today:
Steps taken: 21,000
Calories burned: 3,400
Calories consumed: Not totally sure. But definitely less than 3,400

So we're looking good today! I lost three pounds, bringing my total weight loss to 18 pounds over 13 weeks. Not too shabby! Hopefully I can burn off that pizza throughout the week this week.

Until tomorrow, readers.

TGIF

Good evening, readers!

It was a definite TGIF kind of day. It always gets really busy at work during the last hour of the day on Friday with all the last-minute panickers who forgot that their dogs and cats need meds for the weekend, too.

I was thrilled when the day was done, because I'm really looking forward to this weekend. We don't even really have any plans beyond the usual, but it's going to be gorgeous out and I feel like I've earned a little relaxation. Especially after today! I'll give you my stats first:

Steps taken: 22,600
Calories burned: 3800
Calories consumed: 1450

I didn't intend to take so many steps today, it kind of just happened.

First, I took the long walk to and from work, so that's three miles right there. Plus all the walking I do while I'm at work, and I'm already over my daily goal of 12,000 steps. After work Bill and I worked out at the Y on the ellipticals, which added another 6,000 steps or so. Then we got home from our date night of Y and Culver's, and I took the dog for a longish walk. I wanted to make sure he was tired out before bed. Once we started walking, I just felt like running (Forrest Gump reference unintentional). So we ran for about a mile and a half. All of that added up to the over 22,000 steps I took today. I plan on walking a lot tomorrow, but I'm sure I won't even come close to today's step total.

Speaking of tiring the dog, Bill took part in that as well:

Nothing new happening in wedding-planning land today, but I did have a dream last night that it was our wedding day and we had forgotten to do a bunch of stuff, like tell the DJ what kind of music we wanted, or tell the photographer what photos we'd like, or to tell the minister what time the ceremony would take place. It was weird because it wasn't like we forgot to book anything, we just forgot the follow-through. I wonder what that says about my life right now....

Anyway, the problem with trying to tire out the dog is that it also tires ME out! I'm off to bed!

Until tomorrow, readers.

Highly Entertaining

Good evening, readers!

Just another normal day in the monotonous life that comes with trying to lose weight and stay fit. As I've said before, and will stand by it, it's easier to stick to a weight loss plan if there is a lot of routine. Unfortunately, routine isn't the most entertaining thing to blog about. Luckily, I've been making my own entertainment. Or at least entertaining things have been happening to me.

So, another monotonous day. I got up early, went to BodyPump at 5:30, then went to work. It was super busy at work today, so I didn't have a lot of time to to sit, which was good for the step count. I did have enough time to snatch some fun-sized candies from the candy bowl. I know, bad. But I counted them in my calorie count, and we're still looking good for the day.

After work was over I stopped by the softball fields to watch Bill's team have fun while losing. Sure, they're not going to the olympics anytime soon (mostly because I'm pretty sure men's slow-pitch softball is not an olympic sport) but at least they're having fun while doing it. And they're entertaining.

Before going to softball I stopped at Target to buy pickles (those single serve ones) and use the restroom (because, well, Port-A-Potties are still a thing.) As I was walking in I was catcalled buy some guy in a Ford Taurus (fancy) who said, "That's the way I like it girl, with that 60's haircut." Of course I started laughing, because this was nothing short of hysterical for 2 reasons:
1. He thought this was a good pick up line.
2. I'm rocking my 60's flipped-out hair.

Of course when you laugh at a line someone throws out, it usually encourages them. And, to quote the very first sentence Bill ever spoke to me, "Don't encourage him!"

After softball we stopped at BWW to get Bill some boneless wings on boneless Thursday and cheer him up. I only had a salad with fat free ranch, and very little of it, so I also had a bowl of leftover chili when I got home.

Quick stats:
Steps: 13,500
Calories burned: 3,050
Calories consumed: 1440

I don't know how many hours I slept because I charged my FitBit last night, but I can make an educated guess at about 7. I woke up at 4 and couldn't for the life of me get back to sleep. Until about 5 minutes before the alarm went off, of course.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Not only is it Friday, but I get a dog for the weekend! It's going to be gorgeous out and we are going to walk until one of us drops.

Until tomorrow, readers.

Summer Weekends

Good evening, readers!

Bill and I were just going through our weekend schedules for the next 5 or 6 weekends, and boy does it look busy! We've got tons of dog sitting, grad parties, wedding stuff... We're basically booked between now and the 4th of July! I always wonder how summer goes so fast, but when you can only measure it in weekends, and there's really only... what, 14-15 weekends of actual summer, it's kind of hard to slow down and enjoy it. But that's what we will try to do. All while exercising and eating sensibly, of course.

Today I am hurting. Like, really hurting. I must've Zumba'd too hard last night, because I never get this sore from Zumba. It could also be a combination of the Zumba and the squats that did it, but my legs are not happy with me. I've been walking the long way to and from work (like I said I was going to start doing again!) and it was slow going today because of the soreness. Any tips for getting rid of soreness quickly?

Today is Wednesday, which means rest day for me. So maybe that will help my muscles recover a little bit. It was a pretty low-key day, although work was pretty busy. I took a lunch break, but no other breaks, so my calorie count is pretty low today because I wasn't given the opportunity to eat as many times as normal. Although I did have a few "fun-sized" candy bars, but even with that I'm still only at 1200 calories for the day. Dinner was pretty amazing, and I wish I would have taken a picture; I used our "perfect tortilla" trays to make tortilla bowls for taco salads. Delicious. Although in hindsight I should've put some guac on it...

Anyway, today's quick stats:
Steps taken: 14,000
Calories burned: 3100
Calories consumed: 1200
Hours slept: 8 hours 16 minutes

For me that's like a perfect day. I still got to have chocolate, but my calorie count is low, I got lots of sleep, and I was able to rest my muscles. Gotta love rest day!

There really isn't anything else exciting to report, so I'm off to read a good book.

Until tomorrow, readers.

Go Nuts for Donuts?

Good evening, readers!

All I can say is UGH. Because today, I ate a donut. A freaking donut. I can hardly believe myself. And I didn't even do it on purpose! That's right, today I accidentally ate a donut. It went something like this:

8 am: "Oh donuts! I will avoid those and eat these delicious strawberries instead!"
10 am: "Well, the donuts are still here. One bite can't hurt me, right?"
And repeat every two hours until 5 o'clock.

Sure, one bite can't hurt me. But repeat it six times, and by then I've eaten an entire donut. And once I did that calculation (350 wasted calories on "bites that won't hurt me"!) I think I might have gone a little nuts. Hence the title of today's post.

Since I had already done weight training this morning, I needed some hardcore cardio to work off that stupid donut. Luckily, 6:55 Zumba called my name. And I have to say, I danced my butt off. Like if I somehow put every ounce of energy into that one hour of Zumba I would magically lose the 45 pounds I have left to reach my weight goal.

And while I realize this is, unfortunately, untrue, I'm positive I burned enough calories to cancel out the shameful donut.

Onto those quick stats:
Steps: 18,000
Calories burned: 3,300
Calories consumed: 1520
Sleep: 8 hours 20 minutes

I'm incredibly surprised by the amount of sleep I got last night, considering I got up at 4:50 to go to BodyPump. But that also explains why I didn't need to indulge in the last energy drink I hid in the back of the work fridge.

In wedding-planning land, I've made a bit of progress. We have scheduled our engagement photos (didn't we get engaged like 6 months ago?) and I have made a hair appointment for that day so I can look fabulous. As long as the weather cooperates, we should be in good shape. Either this weekend or next there will be a shopping trip devoted to finding an outfit for those photos.

I also made a series of appointments with a tailor to get my wedding dress fitted. It won't be here until August, and the first fitting isn't until October. But it gives me time to buy my shoes and undergarments, I suppose. It was also kind of weird making appointments into next year. Like "Are you available at 7 pm on April 3rd?" What are the odds that anyone has something scheduled that far in advance besides their wedding? So that was weird.

Overall, progress is being made. And I'm sure someone famous once said "There's many ways to move forward, but only one way to stand still." Or something like that. The Google says... FDR. Some things from high school stick I guess.

Until tomorrow, readers.

Happy House-Iversary!

Good evening, readers!

We had a nice, relaxing day today. First I worked out for an hour, then we went to church, then we did some grocery shopping at Target. After all that, we took a 3-hour nap. Which means I am never sleeping tonight. It also means I was incredibly lazy today and only took 9,000 steps and burned 2600 calories.

Once we got up, Bill made a fancy dinner on the grill of steak, potatoes, and green beans. Because we are celebrating!  On this day last year we closed on our townhouse. We didn't move in until June 1, and we spent the two weeks in between priming and painting every single wall in the house (shout out to Kris who was a huge help with that) as well as getting all our appliances installed, building shelves in the garage (thanks Rob!) and buying the bare necessities we needed to make the house livable (thanks mom!).

In honor of our house-iversary, I'd like to present you with some before and after pictures.

Firstly, our master bathroom. This is definitely our biggest transformation. Here's the before picture:

Who doesn't love teal stripes in their bathroom? Everyone except the previous tenants of this house. Here's what it looks like now:

Pretty sure it took three coats of primer and two coats of paint to cover all those stripes. We also replaced the countertop and the mirror. Add in the fancy shower head and curved curtain rod, and I'm pretty sure that shower is my favorite place to be. Some other plans in the works are taking out the plastic tub surround and replacing it with tile, as well as replacing the flooring.

Or kitchen was another room that got quite the makeover. When we purchased the house it was a foreclosure, so it had zero appliances. It was also bright yellow and dark red #poorpaintdecisions. It looked like this:

After a coat of paint and some appliances, though, it looks a thousand times better:

We kept the yellow, but muted it so it wasn't so incredibly bright, and we chose grey instead of red. Plus just having new, shiny, appliances makes everything look pretty. We are looking into putting up a tile backsplash between the cupboards and counters, as well as putting in granite or quartz countertops and replacing the floors with a more durable hardwood.

I have to say I love our house. I didn't even want to look at it in person after seeing the photos online, but I'm glad Bill dragged me here. It needed cosmetic work, sure, but at least we got to make it our own. And after a year here I love it even more!

I know today's post was a bit off the beaten path of my normal posts, but it was a big life event for us that I wanted to share. So thanks for reading.

Back to regularly scheduled programming tomorrow, folks.

Until then,

Kayti

Weigh In: Week 12

Good evening, readers!

I hope you are all having as fabulous a Saturday as I am. It was pretty non-stop action for the Flemerson household today, but it was very productive.

First, I got up and went to BodyPump from 8-9 and then Zumba from 9:10-10:10. After I got home I weighed myself, and I am happy to announce that I lost 1 pound this week! That brings my total weight loss to 15 lbs. Although even my weight loss is boring at this point, always a pound a week. Maybe next week I'll shoot for the stars an try to lose two pounds.

After working out and weighing, we got ready and met Bill's mom for lunch at Panera. After lunch, we drove out to the location where she is thinking of having the rehearsal dinner. I have to say it wasn't at all what I expected, but I loved the space! It's not a traditional rehearsal dinner locale, which makes it even more appealing to me. Here's a little sneak peek:

And yes, the entire thing is indoors. This is just one of the gorgeous views. Even if we still have two feet of snow next April on our wedding day, this place will still be stunning. The above photo is deliberately vague so as not to give too much away.

After that we went to Sam's club to stock up on a few things, then made our way home to work out our wedding budget. We had some idea, but today we sat down, ran all the numbers, and I honestly feel much better about the whole thing. After this I know that not only can we afford the wedding, we can afford a nice honeymoon! I mean even if we had to pay for everything right this second, we could afford it. And we have almost a whole year to find the money! Plus bonuses, tax returns, and all that good stuff. I'm so glad we went over all the numbers, as I now feel like the financial burden of having a nice wedding has been lifted somewhat.

Once we were done with our budget we drove down to the Mall of America, where we met Bill's mom, brother, sister-in-law, and nephew so we could all experience the new FlyOver America attraction. It was really neat! If you've ever been to Disney and been on Soarin', it's basically the same thing. Pretty cool, though.

Then we shopped for a bit and ate at the Rainforest Cafe for dinner. Afterward I treated myself to some Dippin' Dots as a reward for losing 1 lb last week. Luckily I have a whole week to try to work it off until I have to weigh myself again.

Today I burned 3100 calories and took 17000 steps. I don't actually know how many calories I ate, but I tried to make good decisions throughout the day so as not to totally ruin all my progress. Today I ate:
Breakfast: Fiber one bar
Lunch: Panera Strawberry Pecan Oatmeal
Dinner: 1/2 portabello wrap (tomato basil wrap with veggies and Italian dressing), grilled zucchini
Snacks: Icee at Sam's Club (no regrets), a handful of cheese curds and a giant pickle at the mall, and those Dippin' Dots.

If I hadn't snacked at all I would probably be under 1000 calories. 800 I'm guessing. But I feel like I still did well today but got to have a few treats. And like I said, at least there's a whole week to burn them off until weigh in!

After all that excitement today, I am totally exhausted!

Until tomorrow, readers.

Oh Snap!

Good evening, readers!

Last Friday it was 90, now it's 40. What's up with that? Luckily I do all my workouts indoors now, so it doesn't affect me like it once did. I haven't been walking the long route to work lately, and I could make a lot of excuses for that, like time constraints and bad weather. But honestly, I'm just tired. I work out so much and haven't been sleeping as much as I'd like that I just can't work up the motivation to add walking three miles on top of that. But, no excuses. I'm going to start doing it again.

Alright guys, I have some very, very big news: Target now sells individual pickles. This is legit:

I love pickles, but they're not really an on-the-go type of food. Unless you're eating them on a stick at the state fair, of course. But this is a game changer for my life. And did you know pickles have no calories? I didn't take a picture, but that's what the nutrition facts say. If it wasn't for all the salt, and therefore bloat, I would eat a lot more of them.

In other only-exciting-to-me food news, I was forced to eat a very light dinner today. All I had was a cup of soup from Culvers because I ate TWO Reeses Peanut Butter Cups at work. They're one of my weaknesses. You give me Reese's in ice-cream form and I'm done for. Anyway, the big news is that I have finally perfected my technique to take all the chocolate off the peanut butter.... okay I get that this is not even remotely exciting to anyone but myself, but I felt very accomplished. Don't judge.

Anyway, today's quick stats:
Steps taken: 16500
Calories burned: 3250 (Bill and I did an hour on the elliptical after work)
Calories consumed: 1430 (darn those Reeses)

I'm a little concerned about weigh-in day tomorrow. I didn't do anything terrible this week or cheat a bunch or anything, but I just don't feel like I was as diligent as I should have been. But the scale will tell the truth tomorrow, I suppose.

Until then, readers.

Bill's a Softball Superstar!

Good evening, readers!

Today was a very lovely day in the land of diet and exercise, as well as the land of wedding planning. Here in the Flemerson household we are having some serious discussions about budgeting and who will pay for what in regards to the wedding. We have set aside Saturday afternoon as our time to actually make our "formal" budget and get everything figured out. We've always had some idea of how the budget will go, but now it will be in black and white.

This morning was another early morning for me, and I had to tear myself out of bed at 4:45 am. Morning workouts seem like such a good idea the night before. But I think my favorite moment of the day is the moment the morning instructor says "Have a great day!" because that means I don't have to work out anymore. For today.

Work was just another day at work, per usual. Actually it was really busy today, which helped me get a lot more steps in! After work I met Bill at the softball fields where they have 3M softball games on Thursday evenings. And I have to tell you, it was really freaking cold out there!

As you can tell, I was incredibly unhappy having to pull out a winter hat and mittens when it was 90 degrees like a week ago. But it was totally worth it to see this guy in action:

Ooooh look at that form! And I just had a thought: don't you burn more calories when you're cold?

Quick stats:
Steps taken: 15000
Calories burned: 3200
Calories consumed: 1250
Hours slept: 6:20

I even had a half bag of M&M's at the softball games, but I had planned it into my diet. Totally worth it.

Good news, readers. Tomorrow's Friday!

Until then,

Sometimes We're Sore

Good evening, readers!

Happy rainy Tuesday! I was just making up a song for Bill about how "I have nothing to write about". But then I remembered that I was at the Y and I saw a kid, probably about 4, dressed as Darth Vader. I thought to myself, "now there's a kid who knows what life is about." But then I saw that he was crying, and through the tears he was saying, "But I don't want tacos for dinner!" and my whole perspective about that kid changed. Kid has no idea how good he has it. I want tacos for dinner! Every night gosh darn it!  I did take a picture of little Darth, but then I realized it was probably really creepy to be taking pictures of other people's kids so I deleted it.

So now you have read about the most interesting thing that happened to me today. Another highlight was a heated debate at work, "Is reclining your seat on an airplane without asking the person behind you considered rude?" I am 100% on the YES side, as I think this is totally rude and a violation of personal space. You wouldn't lay your head in a stranger's lap anywhere else (I hope).

Today was another classic Kayti day, but with the addition of 5:30 am BodyPump ( a classic day consists of eating healthy, going to work, going to Zumba, writing this blog, then going to bed). Pretty soon I won't have to explain that to anyone. I had a new-to-me instructor for Zumba today, and the class wasn't that bad. She did a lot of hip-hop, which I like, but a little too much jumping for me. I  think I've gotten spoiled with my regular instructor so I feel everyone else is sub-par or something.

After Zumba I came home and Bill and I lamented over our soreness at dinner. Bill's been working out, too, and he commented that it's hard to get out of bed in the morning because you know that as soon as you move it's going to hurt. I experience this every morning. This morning I took stock of what was hurting, which included two sore knees, a weird pain in my inner left ankle, arms that refuse to go above shoulder height without burning, and a blister on the back of my left foot that I'm pretty sure has been there for at least 5 weeks.

But sometimes I kind of like the soreness. I know it's not something other people can see, but it still feels like a badge of honor. It reminds me of the hard work I'm putting in and WHY I'm doing it in the first place. So while it's hard to get up in the morning, I'm learning to welcome all my aches and pains with open (burning) arms.

Quick stats:
1400 calories consumed
17,500 steps taken
3300 calories burned
6 hrs 40 minutes of sleep

New goal: 8 hours a night. Even when I have to get up at 4:45.

Speaking of soreness, though; I'm really looking forward to rest day tomorrow! It's funny, but every week I think to myself, "yay it's rest day tomorrow!" and then on the actual day I feel guilty for not working out. We'll see if it's the same way this week, or if I can reasonably enjoy some relaxation.

Until then, readers.

Measurement Time!

Good evening, readers!

What a gloomy day it is today! It makes it hard to get out of bed and get motivated to do, well, just about anything I'd say. But we all dragged ourselves out of bed and trekked to work, didn't we? Except for those of you who are retired/unemployed/on 2nd or 3rd shift/pretending to be sick/actually sick/on vacation. Seriously, though, why are Mondays such a struggle? I will never know.

Well, today was another classic Kayti day that involved walking to work, eating healthy, and going to Zumba. One of my family members (who shall remain nameless) remarked that s/he only reads my blog every 2-3 days because it's always the same. When I remarked that my life just wasn't that exciting and I needed the routine to keep up with my weight loss, another family member told me, "well do something interesting, then."

It was a bit discouraging, to be honest. And I thought about scaling back my blog posts to every other day, but you know what? I'm not writing this to entertain everyone else. Sure, sometimes that's a positive side-effect, but I'm writing this blog as a way to keep myself accountable while on my fitness and wedding planning journey. Plus I'll have a neat way to look back on the year before I got married and how I felt about everything. So if you're reading this and finding it entertaining, I'm happy. But if you think I'm boring, that's okay too.

Today's quick stats:
16500 steps
3150 calories burned
1450 calories consumed

But the better part of today was that I finally took my measurements again. It has been a few weeks, and I am happy to report that I am actually seeing some progress!

I have lost an inch in my thighs. Yay! I was noticing that my pants were definitely fitting looser.

Even better than that? I lost a 1/2 inch in my arms!!! I don't think I was ever so excited about anything pretty much ever. You know what this means? Something I'm doing is actually working! I know it's hard to lose in the arms, but now that I've seen a little progress I'm more motivated than ever to keep going!

On that high note, I'm off to reward myself with a Skinny Cow ice cream and pack my gym bag for tomorrow's early morning.

Until then, readers.

Happy Mother's Day!

Good evening, readers!

And a happy mother's day to all you mothers out there, and to those who have mothers :)

In the spirit of Mother's day, we went out to dinner with Bill's mom, Kris, as well as his brother Rob, sister-in-law Laura, and nephew Nicholas. We went to the Tavern in Woodbury and sat out on the patio. I snuck a little photo to commemorate not only mother's day but our first patio meal of the season:

Pretty sure that's a super-intense game of tic-tac-toe they're playing there.

On to the official business: I got up this morning and went to step class. BodyStep has an "athletic" version and a regular version. Today we did the athletic version, which is full of burpees and push-ups. Not my favorite. I also had to do a lot of modifying today because my knees still hurt from all the jumping at Thursday's BodyStep class. I definitely worked up a sweat though; like the dripping from your ponytail, don't want to lean back in the car seat kind of sweat.

Otherwise I must admit I was pretty lazy today. I'm ready the book "After You" because it finally came in at the library, and I spent a good 3 hours reading that before I even realized 3 hours had gone by. That will hurt the step count.

I ended up with 10,000 steps today, which I think is an all-time low since I started this blog. I'm really not that worried, though, since I ate pretty well.

I don't know what my calorie count was, but I'll let you know what I ate and we can at least decide if it was healthy enough:

Breakfast: Fiber one bar, banana
Lunch: Chipotle veggie salad bowl with guac
Snack: 3 cups Skinny Pop popcorn
Dinner: Salad w/ mozzarella cheese and balsamic vinaigrette dressing
Dessert: Vanilla cone from McDonald's

Sure, that diet isn't winning any awards, but it's a pretty typical weekend diet for me. I tend to eat more calories on the weekends, mostly because I'm home and around more food. During the week when I'm at work it's easy to get busy and forget about food for a while.

On a side note, that salad I had for dinner had grilled portabella mushrooms on it that were absolutely amazing. I've really gotten in to mushrooms lately (not the illegal, magical kind) so if anyone has any good recipes involving mushrooms, send them my way!

I know I said I would provide my measurements today, but honestly I forgot and now I'm in bed and feeling pretty antithetical about the whole "getting up just to provide measurements that aren't going to change overnight" situation. So forgive me, and someone remind me to do it tomorrow. Thanks!

Well, I suppose that's all she wrote for today. Nothing new is happening in wedding-planning land, except my insistence on making it a day where "everyone tells me I'm pretty and then I get to eat ice cream." Dreams, I know.

Until tomorrow, readers.
