Good evening, readers!
And a happy new year! I have made it to midnight eastern time, and that is about the best I can hope for. I was definitely falling asleep, so I figured I should come write this before I go to bed for good. First order of business: did anyone see that horrifying Mariah Carey performance about 30 minutes ago? It was hands down the most painfully entertaining thing I've seen in a long time, and a perfect way to sum up 2016.
Anyway, I feel very accomplished today. I didn't let the holidays get the best of me when it comes to my weight. Last week I lost a pound, which was a Christmas miracle. This week I maintained. I lost nothing, but gained nothing, either. I am more than happy with that, as I didn't eat very well throughout the week. So I'm still down 42 pounds, with 18 more to go before the wedding. I feel like I have set myself up for success.
Today, being the last day of 2016, was also my last day before I really ramp up my diet and exercise. Which means I "let it go" a little bit today. It started normally, with BodyPump and Zumba in the morning. The instructor tried to get me to stay for step class after Zumba, but your body can only take so much. Between Thursday evening and this morning I am so incredibly sore. Sometimes I wonder how I can continue to move at all.
After the workouts I came home and went back to bed. For 3 hours. Apparently I didn't get enough sleep last night. When I got up Bill took me out to Panera, where I indulged a bit and got a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. I haven't had either of those things in a year, probably. And it was delicious.
The rest of the day was spent working on wedding stuff. I finally finished all the paper flowers! Not one more petal must be folded, cut, or glued. They are all in boxes properly labelled until we need them on April 22! We also finished choosing all of our ceremony options, including music! Now we just need to talk to our musician to make sure all of our wacky song choices can be accommodated. I didn't work on the invitations today, except to put one together as an example. It will be the one we bring to the post office so they can tell us how much shipping is needed. It's definitely going to be more than a 44 cent stamp (or whatever they go for now) I can promise you that. But it's okay, because they're pretty amazing.
Bill made pasta with red sauce for dinner, and we had a couple glasses of wine to ring in the new year. Which explains why I can't stay up until midnight!
Have a safe and happy new year, everyone!

Recharge & The New Plan
Good evening, readers!
Let's keep it short and sweet tonight, shall we? It's almost midnight, and I never stay up this late (at least on purpose).
Today was definitely a recharge day. For some reason I am super sore from yesterday's BodyPump. I'm usually a little sore the day after class, but today is worse than usual. To the point of taking ibuprofen to help. Tomorrow morning's class will be an adventure.
In trying to recharge I didn't go to the gym, so I didn't get as many steps in as usual. I also didn't eat very well today. I'm just considering it getting in my last "hurrah" before the new year and my new diet plan kicks in.
So from January 1 through March 20 (since my birthday is March 21) I will adhere to a strict diet of 1200 calories per day with only one rest day per week from workouts. I know you might think it sounds a bit crazy, or maybe even overkill, but I am determined to lose the last 18 pounds and reach my goal. I will have 79 days to make it happen. That's basically 1/4 pound per day, so I can't afford to slip up! I will spend the last month, between my birthday and the wedding, hopefully maintaining. Otherwise, if I haven't hit my goal yet, I can use this time to lose the last pound or two. Just don't tell my seamstress!
Over in wedding-planning land today, our RSVP cards are here! Which means tomorrow is a big day; we are going to spend it working on putting the invitations together! We have to print address labels for the invitations as well as the RSVP cards, and then we can assemble everything since we have all the pieces. The only thing missing is the return address labels, which should arrive next week. Then we'll take them to the post office to get the proper amount of postage put on them. I can't wait to dive into this project!
I also worked on my flowers for a while today. I'm so close to having them done! After tomorrow's workout I'm going to try to finish those first before dong the invitations. We also picked up the RSVP cards from Sue & Mike's house, and chatted for a bit about wedding nonsense and drank a glass of wine (or 2). Hence my late post!
I'm not doing stats today. My calorie count is some unknown gigantic number, and while I did take over 10,000 steps, it's not even close to my normal step count for the day.
Tomorrow is the last day of 2016! Let's get this year over already! 2017 is going to be fabulous :)
Until tomorrow, readers.

4 Months to go!
Good evening, readers!
So there's a real possibility that I missed the 4 month mark by a good week or so. With all the holiday activity the 22nd of December just came and went without a passing glance. So I will rectify that now.
I think it's starting to hit me a little bit. We're nearing the 100 day mark, and that's just ridiculous. Honestly, though, I feel like I have everything pretty under control. There's no aspect of this wedding where I'm like "wow, I have no idea what I'm going to do for that." Now if I could just quit having nightmares (most recently Bill just decided not to show up at the altar) we'd be in good shape.
Since we're already talking wedding, I've been killing it in wedding-planning land this week. Every day I've purchased something I need for the wedding. Today it was paper for the favors. Yesterday it was part of the bridesmaids gifts, and the day before I sent Bill out on a top secret mission. Today I also purchased the return-address labels for the invitations. Once those come in the mail and we get the RSVP cards done from Bill's Aunt Susie (who is so kindly printing them for us) then we will be ready to stuff and address the invitations! Who knows how long this good feeling will last; I'm hoping I don't start to feel overwhelmed before the wedding. For now I'm feeling very "in control," which is how I like things.
Back to fitness land, the land in which I live most of the time. I have definitely been eating too much this week. Nothing earth-shattering, like the notorious Christmas cookie binge of 2016, but enough to make me feel a little guilty. Like today it was some extra chips and guac, along with a few Godiva chocolates. Hopefully all that deliciousness doesn't permanently attach itself to my hips.
Exercise has been good. Yesterday was rest day. I actually meant to post, but when you are a 78-year-old woman trapped in a 28-year-old body, sometimes you fall asleep before 8pm on a Wednesday. Today I went to step class and then BodyPump. Nothing exciting there. My cold isn't gone, but I do feel much better. I'm able to breathe more normally, which is a plus when working out. I prefer to stay upright and conscious during my workouts.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 17800
Calories burned: 3250
Calories consumed: 1550
Looking okay for the day, I suppose. But I do have some Halo Top in the freezer and will probably feel guilty for eating it after already consuming 1500 calories for the day. Oh well, ice cream always wins in the end.
Until tomorrow, readers.

The Dreaded Cold
Good evening, readers!
I'm going to try not to complain too much about this whole cold situation, but it's really ruining my fitness plans I must say. I actually slept pretty well last night (thanks NyQuil!) even though I had to do the whole uncomfortable "sleep with your mouth open" situation. I won't go into further detail on that because it's just kinda gross.
So I got up early to go to work after the long weekend. Bill is off this week so I'm trying to find some wedding things for him to do during the day so he doesn't get bored :) I did give him one assignment, which he completed, and is top secret to anyone else.
I also got a couple other wedding things done. I sent the RSVP cards out to get printed. Once I get those back I can start stuffing and addressing the invitations! I also contacted Bill's aunt, Sheila, about borrowing some craft supplies for making our wedding favors. After work I went to a store (again, top secret) to purchase some things for my Bridesmaid's gifts. One more stop, plus waiting for a package to come in the mail, and those will be all done as well!
So even though I'm sick I can still go to work AND get wedding stuff done. What I can't do, apparently, is work out. I tried going to Zumba at 5:30. I made it about halfway through before I just couldn't do it anymore. I felt fatigued and out of breath, my throat hurt and my lips stung. Unfortunately I realized it just wasn't a good idea to continue, so I left. I'm definitely glad I worked out yesterday when I was feeling better.
Food today was pretty good calorie-wise, although I miss being able to actually taste it. I had my normal breakfast (banana, coffee), lots of water, more coffee, and then the regular lunch. For dinner I stopped at Wendy's and had myself a baked potato and a Frosty. It was the most disappointing Frosty of all time because I couldn't really taste it. The cold felt good on my throat, but that was about it.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 13600
Calories burned: 2900
Calories consumed: 1200
If it wasn't for Sudafed I would seriously sound more nasally than Fran Drescher. Hopefully this clears up soon, as I know you are all probably already sick of hearing about it! I'll give you the short update tomorrow.
Until then, readers.

Weigh In: Week 43
Good evening, readers!
Well, I did it. I actually took two days work of break from this blog! And it was tough, I must say. I wanted to post on Saturday but I also know a couple days away will be good for everyone.
First things first: it's a freaking Christmas miracle. After all of the cookies I ate (seriously it was an obscene amount) I somehow ended up losing a pound this week! I wasn't even going to weigh, but figured I'd just see what I was up against. Lo and behold, that scale went down! That brings me to 42 pounds lost, with just 18 more to go. Feeling good!
Well, actually, not feeling so good anymore. Christmas Eve I noticed my throat was getting scratchy, and Christmas morning I woke up with a full-blown cold. Nothing serious, just the runny nose, sinus pressure, sore throat, coughing/sneezing type of cold. How annoying.
I tried not to let that get in the way of our celebrating. Christmas morning we got up at 5 and went to Bill's mom's house at 6 to open our stockings that Santa filled for us. Then we hit the road up to Superior to make it in time for my mom's famous Christmas brunch. We spent the day with my family just opening gifts, watching football, and playing games.
Here are some of my more entertaining gifts I received:
Everyone needs this sweater, which I can only describe as the cutest ugly sweater of all time. From Bill, who was with me when I saw it in the store but didn't want to pay for a sweater I could only wear once or twice a year.
I also got a killer start to my ridiculous mug collection:
That's a big pickle.
We drove home today even though the road conditions were pretty terrible. It took longer than normal because of the ice, so I didn't get many steps in. We made it, though, and had time to eat lunch and go grocery shopping.
The only good thing (although it's probably really a bad thing) about this cold is that it has ruined my appetite; I can't taste much so I don't feel like eating. This morning I had some eggs and banana bread, I had a cup of chicken noodle soup for lunch, and now I'm attempting a small piece of leftover lasagna.
After getting home and unpacking, even though I felt pretty terrible because of the cold, I went to the gym anyway. There was a Zumba class followed by BodyPump. I figured if I went today then I wouldn't have to go tomorrow if I was feeling crappy after work. So I made it through, just not with the same intensity as usual.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 12000
Calories burned: 2700
Calories consumed: not many. I'm working on it.
I'm actually happy to be back writing the blog, as it gives my life a bit of that routine that it needs.
Over in wedding-planning land, I think we have finally decided what we're going to do for the Unity Ceremony (I'd better start that volcano!) and I feel like my list of things to do is actually pretty short and manageable. My mom had a brilliant idea for a favor so she'll be making those, and I'm just feeling really on top of the game. Now to lose those last 18 pounds!
And I'm off to ply myself with medications (Sudafed, anyone?) and try to get some sleep for a busy work day tomorrow!
Until then, readers.

Christmas Break
Good evening, readers!
I have come to the decision that I am going to take a two day break *gasp* from writing my blog after today. My Christmas Eve and Christmas day are going to be jam-packed and I will most likely not have the time to write a blog. It will probably be much more difficult to count my calories, and I'm sure I won't be getting as much exercise as normal. I'm going to skip my weigh-in tomorrow because I know it will be bad and I just don't want to do that to myself before the holidays. I want to enjoy them without criticizing every single thing I put in my mouth. Moderation, that's the key.
Speaking of moderation, I did much better today. No more Christmas cookie attacks. That's probably because most people at the hospital were off today so there weren't nearly as many treats floating around. I only ate two Christmas cookies, and I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for that.
Otherwise my eating today went really well. Except for the fact that I haven't eaten a vegetable all day. Gosh I hate vegetables. Sometimes (like today) I like to list what I eat. It helps me get the bigger picture and see if I'm missing any key food groups.
Breakfast:
Banana (90 cals), coffee w/ creamer (30 cals)
Lunch:
Turkey sandwich (light bread, turkey, cheese) 180 cals
Yogurt (80 cals)
Fruit cup (40 cals)
Snacks:
Christmas cookies (2): 150 cals?
Fiber one bar (90 cals)
Dinner:
Two eggs (160 cals)
Two slices light toast (90 cals)
1/2 apple (40 cals)
Oh and I forgot to mention the nonfat chai latte no water I had from Starbucks, that adds another 200 calories (and some much needed dairy!).
Total: 1150 calories. And what is the only thing I'm missing? Vegetables. Because I don't even like them! I can't think of an actual non-starchy vegetable that I enjoy eating. Well, at least I have something to work on for the new year.
Today's stats:
Steps taken 12300
Calories burned: 2800
Calories consumed: 1150
I did have a fabulous day at work today. It's amazing how much work you can get done when you don't have to answer the phone or respond to emails! I left early and did a little shopping at the Rosedale mall before heading home to take a nap with Bill on the couch. I've been so tired lately, and I'm probably not going to get much rest this weekend.
And with that, I hope you all have a safe and Happy Christmas. When I return it is gong to be full-blown, 1200 calories per day with TWO servings of veggies diet time. We're going to knock off those last 19 pounds even if it kills me!
Until then, readers.

Attack of the Christmas Cookies!
Good evening, readers.
Not only is there absolutely no chance that I will lose weight, it will be a Christmas miracle if I maintain this week. Pretty sure I ate my weight in Christmas cookies throughout the course of the day. What's worse is that that's basically ALL I ate until I got home and actually ate a dinner with some nutrients in it.
It's just... they were everywhere! And it started out innocently enough: oh, I'll just try one. Oh, now I finished this project, I'll have one more. Until, oops, I've eaten more than I can count. If anyone remembers my post from a few months back about food rewards and my questioning of why they are frowned upon, now I totally get it! Food rewards justify overeating. Simple as that.
In an attempt to rectify the Christmas cookie debacle of 2016, I came home and ate a very sensible dinner of chicken, broccoli, and rice. I also tried to drink extra water to flush out all that excess sugar. Then I went to the gym.
Side note: There's absolutely nothing worse than going to the gym after eating. I ate at 6, and my class wasn't until 7, so I thought it would be fine. And I didn't feel full at all. But somehow once I started working really hard I could feel that food in my stomach like a ball of lead.
Anyway, I tried to burn off every calorie I've ever eaten while I was at the gym. I worked super hard at step class. I was literally dripping with sweat by the end of it. My palms left sweat prints on the step when we were doing burpees. Gross. Then I did my weight lifting. By the end my legs and arms were shaking and my muscles had this not-unpleasant warm sensation going on.
So, I learned two valuable lessons today: Food rewards are just a way to justify overeating, and you can't fix it all in one night. You'll probably end up hurting yourself (pretty sure if my knees could talk there would be some choice 4-letter words thrown about). I'm surprised it took me this long. Hopefully this doesn't do any permanent damage to my weight-loss psyche. I'm just going to try to get this week behind me and kick things up a notch after Christmas.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 16500
Calories burned: 3200
Calories consumed: How many calories are in a Christmas cookie? Multiply that by about 650. Oy.
We're getting close to Christmas now! One more work day, and I'm only working half a day probably. Then I might go shopping just because I want to, not because I have to!

Until tomorrow, readers.

Measurement... Tuesday?
Good evening, readers!
I totally meant to do measurement Monday yesterday, but then it slipped my mind with my busy evening. So I decided to buck tradition and do it today!
So let's remind ourselves of last month's measurements:
Bust: 38
Waist: 31
Hips: 47
Thighs: 28
Arms: 14.5
And here's what we're looking at today:
Bust: 38
Waist: 30.5
Hips: 46
Thighs: 28
Arms: 14
So hey, that's exciting! Even though I haven't lost much weight since the last time I measured, I'm still losing inches! I guess what they say is true, muscle weighs more than fat. And I've been gaining lots of muscle by lifting all those weights, and it's burning the fat off. Sure, I only lost 2 inches, but it feels good. Although I really wish I could lose a few inches in the thighs; at this rate I'll end up with the same sized thighs and waist (awkward).
So today was a pretty normal Tuesday. Just work, home for a bit, then double workout. I've got a pint of Halo Top next to me waiting to be devoured once this post is completed!
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 19500
Calories burned: 3450
Calories consumed: about 1550 (including that Halo Top!)
So all is looking good! I'm feeling good about my plan to make it through the holidays relatively unscathed and then kick it up in the new year. I can hit my 60lb goal by the wedding, I just know it!
Until tomorrow, readers.

6 Days Until Christmas! (Just another friendly reminder)
Good evening, readers!
Well, yesterday turned out exactly as expected. The temp outside reached twenty below zero, which matched my desire to leave the house. So I didn't. I stayed home, worked on paper flowers (I'm so close to being done, but I ran out of glue!), watched football, and kept myself warm. Bill went to the Vikings game, so then he came home and turned the heat way up in the house. Which explains why I woke up in the middle of the night sweating on a -10 degree night. Oy. That heating bill won't be pretty this month.
Today was back to the grind, unfortunately. I had a busy day, though, which is always good for my step and calorie count. There were a few temptations at work, including spinach-artichoke dip and donuts! I did a good job of not overdoing it while still allowing myself a few indulgences. If I denied myself everything I'd go absolutely crazy!
My regular Monday night Zumba class is over for the session and won't start back up again until January 9th or something. Luckily the Y offers a Monday night Zumba class as well! I attended that, and afterward I finally bought groceries at Target. I had just enough food to make our lunches this morning, but not enough to make lunches for tomorrow! The store wasn't as crazy with holiday shoppers as I thought it would be, considering we are now less than a week away from the big holiday.
I picked up Chipotle after groceries (salad for me, of course) and now I am finally relaxing. I've been feeling extra tired lately, but I'm hoping it's just a combination of holiday/wedding/work stress. I have big plans to really get things moving after the holidays. I'm going to kick-up my weight loss regimen, I'm going to kick butt on the wedding planning and finally get all my decision made, and I'm going to quit working 45-50 hour work weeks! Big plans, I say. Ooooh looks like some New Year's resolutions are in store!
Todays stats:
Steps taken: 18200
Calories burned: 3250
Calories consumed: around 1600
Over in Christmas shopping land, our last gift came in the mail today! Bill is in charge of wrapping it (you've never seen someone wrap so perfectly) which means I'm completely done with the shopping! Yes, me, the girl who boycotted Christmas shopping less than two weeks ago. That's why it's nice to have a partner.
Well, I'm off to try to catch up on that elusive sleep.
Until tomorrow, readers.

Weigh In: Week 42
Good evening, readers!
As I said yesterday, my weigh-ins until the end of the year are probably going to be mostly about maintaining. Luckily I was able to do that this week.
I did not lose any weight, but I did not gain any weight. So I'm considering that a win. I'm still down 41 pounds and want to lose another 19 before the wedding. If I can just maintain the 41 pound weight loss until January 1 I believe I can really buckle down and lose those last 19. And if someone payed me $20 per pound I'd be extra motivated. Just saying.
This morning was my regular Saturday morning, except that I had to shovel the driveway before leaving for the gym. I also had a guest with me at the gym, Mary! She worked out on the treadmill while I went to class. It's nice to use those guest passes once in a while!
BodyPump was ultra painful today. I was still sore from Thursday night's step class/weightlifting, particularly my quads. Squats hurt today. I thought my legs would be totally dead for Zumba, but somehow I was super into it. Like jumping when I didn't even need to jump. I guess I just felt like dancing this morning :)
When I got home I got to work getting ready for our Emerson Christmas celebration! Bill, Bob, and Mary went to Nicholas' basketball game, so I had some time to myself to make everything perfect. When everyone came over we had appetizers and opened gifts, ate dinner, and then watched a Christmas movie while enjoying some cookies.
Mesmerizing, no? Actually that might have been us watching the T-Wolves lose miserably in overtime.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 13,400
Calories burned: 3100
Calories consumed: too many!
I didn't eat terribly today, but I definitely ate more than I usually do. My plan is to eat really healthy during the week so I can enjoy Christmas celebrations. We'll see how that goes.
Tomorrow my big plans are to not leave the house in an attempt not to freeze to death! I'll start the car a couple times to make sure it still works (even though it's in the garage), but otherwise it's hibernation for me!
Until then, readers.

Happy Snow Day!
Good evening, readers!
The snow is pretty, isn't it? I just wish there were a little less of it. Luckily I had the ability to leave work early today. I timed it pretty well and got home just before the snow hit. I was planning to go to the gym, but in the ten minutes I was home to change it looked like it snowed a whole inch. Instead I stayed home and did a 45 minute Zumba DVD instead.
Tomorrow we are hosting Emerson family christmas at our house. Due to the snow, we had a few visitors come stay with us early! I'm happy to have them, as it gave us a welcome distraction from the piles of snow in our driveway. Actually, we've shoveled the driveway twice already but it doesn't really seem to be making a difference.
We went out to dinner, where I had a salad with chicken and some peanuts as an appetizer. Since I was trying to get all my work done to leave early today I ended up skipping lunch. I ate some cottage cheese at home after my Zumba workout, but man was I starving by the time dinner came around!
Unfortunately I don't really know how many calories I ate at dinner, so stats today are going to be difficult. I'll make my best guess, but who knows.
After dinner we came home and played a card game I think is called "teed off", which is aptly named because it does really tee me off. My competitive side came out today, that's for sure. I think just barely losing the game, along with staying up way past my bedtime (it's already 11:30!) made me a little cranky. Oops.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 17600
Calories burned: 3500
Calories consumed: 1600? Hopefully. Or less.
Tomorrow is weigh-in day. Again, I'm just hoping to break even. I did well on the exercise this week, and okay on the eating. I'm just trying to make it through the holiday season with minimal damage so I can really kick it up a notch in the new year. I'm still formulating a plan for that.
Anyway, I'll let you all know those results tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
Until then, readers.

They're Here!!!
Good evening, readers!
They're here! No, not Santa's elves or Christmas presents or even a poltergeist. The invitations! They arrived on my doorstep this afternoon! I don't get very excited about wedding stuff, but this is probably the second most exciting thing after finding my dress! They're even cooler than I thought they would be, and they got here early! I'm not going to start addressing them until after Christmas, but I have them and that makes me happy :) They even match the theme of our wedding, but that's all I'm going to say. I want you all to be surprised when you get them in the mail in a couple months!
Guess what other exciting thing happened yesterday? I finished my Christmas shopping! After being a shopping scrooge for the last few weeks I finally buckled down with Bill and we got it all done! We even have everything wrapped (minus the thing coming in the mail) so I'm feeling relieved that it's another thing to check off the list.
We also finally got our Christmas tree decorated! I have to say the real tree may look a tad nicer (don't tell Bill):
Now we just have to figure out why our outdoor lights aren't working. Weird, we took them in and every strand of lights and power cord works, even though together outside they wouldn't. We think they just got frozen, so we're going to try some heavier-duty cords.
Today was far less productive at home but was super extra productive at work. The only problem with being super extra productive at work is that I basically never leave my desk. Which means my step count and calorie burn suffers. But it was so cold that I didn't want to leave the comfort of my space heater anyway.
After work I came home and cleaned up a little bit. I washed the sheets on our guest bed for our weekend guests, but that's the extent of my productiveness there. Then I went to step class and weight lifting class, and now I kind of want to die. I have really bad shin splints right now, and I'm surprised they didn't bother me much during step class (considering it's pretty high-impact). They definitely bothered me walking at work today, though. And they extra bother me when I'm driving during rush hour traffic!
I don't know if the high impact cardio followed by strength is too much for me, but by the end of weigh lifting I could feel just about every muscle in my body shaking. No pain, no gain I suppose.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 14600
Calories burned: 3100
Calories consumed: 1480
And yes, that calorie count includes the pint of Halo Top I'm about to devour, since I didn't get one on Tuesday.
This weekend should be interesting. I'm not certain, due to the weather, how my workouts and weigh-ins are going to look. We will just play it by ear, I suppose.
Until tomorrow, readers.

Merry Christmas To Me!
Good evening, readers!
In an otherwise uneventful day, a very good thing happened this evening; we had a surprise visit from our good friend (possibly best friend after today) Jen, who brought us a little Christmas gift to get through the holidays. And just look what a friend she is:
She brought us all the stuff to make my favorite diet drink (UV blue with diet cranberry juice and a splash of lime) and my favorite indulgence: vodka pudding. And she was even nice enough to include the instructions. Vodka pudding involves pudding mix, whipped cream, and cake vodka. Oh, and zero self-control. So Merry Christmas to me!
Otherwise today was just your normal Tuesday. I got up, braved the cold and made it to work early. I've been working on a big project, and today I was completely determined to finish it. And you know what? I did! I spent probably 4 of my 8 working hours finishing this thing. I thought it would actually take longer, and I'm definitely glad it's done.
After work was our usual Tuesday double-dip: Zumba followed by BodyPump. Since I missed Pump on Saturday (therefore not having lifted weights in 5 days) it felt extra difficult today. That just reminds me of how easily I could lose the benefits of all this hard work I've been putting in.
Everyone keeps commenting about how there's no way I can totally "let myself go" and quit eating healthy and working out after the wedding. Well of course I can't do that. How annoying would it be to lose 60 pounds just to gain it all back again? But it's also really annoying to devote all of your waking hours to work, wedding planning, working out, and trying to make healthy food choices. Luckily once the wedding is over it was free up some time and brain space, but I think I can also cut back on the workouts a little bit. Maybe weight lifting two times a week and cardio 3, instead of 3 and 4? That sounds reasonable, no? I'll trying to continue to eat healthy, but that's the hard part for me. Without a goal in mind (say, I want to lose 1 pound this week) I don't have a ton of incentive to not shove PopTarts in my face.
Anyway, that's all a long way away, isn't it? Like 130 days or somewhere around there. So we'll just think about it when we need to.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 17600
Calories burned: 3300
Calories consumed: 1400
My food intake was really good today, until I got in the car on the way home and realized I was ravenous. Then I remembered the bag of popcorn Sam left in my car this weekend. So long, popcorn. But I had to forego my Halo Top, which was sad :(
Tomorrow we're going to spend most of the evening getting ready for this weekend, since it's really my only free evening before we are hosting Christmas! I've got a list of things to do, but I might not be able to blog since we'll be so busy trying to get the list done!
We'll see how that goes.

13 days until Christmas! (Just a friendly reminder)
Good evening, readers!
I have to be honest: yesterday, after driving 3&1/2 hours to get home because of the snow, I was never so happy to see my house in my life. Even better: Bill was home! It was the first time I had seen him since the previous Saturday because of his trip to Korea. Luckily he wasn't too jet lagged, so he helped me get bunches of stuff done! I got home about 2:30 and got more stuff done before 8 than I usually do in a whole weekend!
First I put my laundry in. Then we went to the tree lot at a local church and picked out our Christmas tree. Bill has this thing about getting a real Christmas tree. Like one that someone recently chopped down. Then he drags it into the house, getting little green needles all over the place. Then we have to get it in the stand, water it, then center it. Then wait for the branches to fall. I could have decorated the entire inside and outside of the house, including putting up an artificial tree, by the time we have gotten this far. But I digress.
Once we got our tree I ran a few more errands. First I bought a Christmas present! Yes, the girl who swore she couldn't find a thing. Actually, thanks to Bill's quick thinking, we are down to only 3 people left to buy for. Then I went to Target and got groceries, as well as almost everything I need for hosting Christmas for one side of Bill's family this weekend. While at Target I called Bill and asked him to put my laundry in the dry as I had neglected to do so before I left.
After Target I picked up some Leann Chin for dinner and a quality hour with Bill eating and watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. But then it was back to productivity. I put together the lasagna for Saturday and put it in the freezer. Someone remind me to take it out of the freezer Friday after work. Then I cooked some rice and put together 5 meals for the week consisting of rice, chicken, and vegetables. I am eating one now. Cleaned everything up, ran the dishwasher, folded the clothes, and fell over due to exhaustion.
Today was a back to normal kind of day. Get up early, make lunches, go to work, etc. The exciting part comes when we move over to wedding-planning land: We finalized our wedding invitations, and they have been sent to the printer! They should be at our door before Christmas. How exciting!
After work we put the lights on the Christmas tree. Now all that's left to do is put on the ornaments and we will be all set. Maybe tomorrow's project. Then I went to Zumba, which was the last Monday night class until January 9th. Slightly annoying, but there's so much going on between now and then that it's probably for the best.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 16,000
Calories burned: 3,100
Calories consumed: 1550
Oops. Probably shouldn't have had those chocolate covered pretzels. Oh well, it's not breaking the bank.
Lots of Christmas preparations this week! I'll keep you updated and hopefully keep on track!
Until tomorrow, readers.

Hair/Makeup Trial
Good morning, readers!
With all the cookie baking me, mom, and Sam did yesterday, along with shopping and a few wedding errands, I was exhausted and fell asleep before I could even think about posting a blog! So you're getting a weirdly early post from me to make up for not blogging for the last two days.
First off, you can probably guess that a weigh-in never happened. And I'm going to have to work super hard to burn off all the cookie dough I ate this weekend. But that's okay. My hope at this point is to just make it through the holidays with minimal damage and then work my butt off January, February, and March.
Friday was a pretty uneventful day. It was basically work, pick up Sam, drive to superior, eat dinner, bake cookies, go to bed. The only item of note is that Bill got home from his Korea trip safely on Friday about 9 o'clock and has probably spend the majority of the time since in bed trying to reset his internal clock.
Yesterday, though, was a big day. We started baking cookies early in the morning. When you're used to only have two people, adding a third to your routine makes a big difference. We had tons of cookies to bake, but with Sam's assistance it seemed like everything to done super fast! My mom would be working on one thing, Sam would be working on another, and I would go back and forth assisting. It was a pretty good system.
We went out to breakfast at about 10:30, and then we went to the salon where I had the hair and makeup trial for my wedding! The hair was super fun. We tried it up and down, with a veil and with a comb. Our stylist, Holly, was super efficient and I liked that she listened when I said I didn't want a lot of "poof" on top of my head!
Then the makeup artist, Jolene, did my makeup. We did airbrush, as it has better coverage and is more natural. I have to say, seeing my makeup done was quite the shock. I probably only wear makeup 3-4 times a year, so having that much on was kind of weird. But in a good way. Like, "is that really me under there?" Here's how it ended up:
My only qualm is that it takes forever to get all of that off your face at the end of the night! Oh well, the price of beauty I suppose.
After that event we came home and finished all our cookies. Yes, all of them. We made 10 different kinds, but scaled back the quantities a little. Then we grabbed dinner at 7West Taphouse and headed up to the Miller Hill mall to do some Christmas shopping. Which means I can cross another person off my list! I'm so excited to finally be making a little progress on my shopping list.
Today we are packing up our cookies, grabbing breakfast, and then heading home. There's not too much fresh snow up here, but I've heard the cities got a bit. Here's hoping for safe travels.
Also, I don't have calorie counts or step counts for the weekend. I ate pretty good (less the stolen bits of cookie dough) but didn't get a ton of steps (cookie baking, while active, does not produce a ton of steps). So we were forego the stats for today and pick those back up tomorrow.
Until then, readers.

Weight loss wait
Good evening, readers.
Definitely going to be a short and sweet one, as I still have a zillion things to do before I can even think about going to bed, and it's almost 10 o'clock already!
Today was not a good day food-wise. Calorie-wise it was probably fine. I had my normal breakfast of a banana and coffee. Then I got really busy during the day and forgot to eat lunch. So I had a bag of crispy M&M's and a frosted sugar cookie. Oy. When I got home I was starving, so I made my go-to single girl meal: Avocado on toast with cottage cheese. High in protein and good fats, it makes me feel full (but not stuffed) and isn't too high in calories.
After that big ol' meal I made my way to the YMCA where I pulled another double. I tried a new class today called Cardio Step Together. It's kind of like the old step classes I used to take, but it has more strength training (squats/lunges/burpees) and is super high in cardio. Honestly I really liked it. I was dripping sweat by the end, and I thought there was no way I was going to make it through weight lifting class after doing all that. But somehow I still made it through class number two. I'm definitely going to be feeling it tomorrow, though.
Speaking of tomorrow, I need to pack! Sam and I are going to my parent's for the weekend for cookie baking and Christmas shopping! I'm excited (probably my favorite weekend of the year), but sad that I won't be seeing Bill until Sunday even though he gets back Friday night. He'll probably be sleeping all of Saturday anyway.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 17000
Calories consumed: 1500 (not as bad as I thought)
Calories burned: 3350
So it hasn't turned out too poorly, I guess. Now I've got to get packed, clean up the house for Bill, and get my life organized. Lofty goal for 10pm on a Thursday, no?
Not much happening in wedding-planning land. I made some edits to the proof of our invitation and sent it back, but that's about all the progress I made today.
In Christmas land, at least Bill is having success shopping for gifts in Korea. It's always good to have a partner.
And in annoying weight-loss land, I don't have a single pair of jeans that fits me properly. I was trying to hold off buying new ones until after the wedding in case I lost more weight, but I don't think I can wait any longer. Everything is so baggy my coworkers keep trying to convince me to go shopping. A good problem to have, I get that. But I don't want to spend the money on new jeans when I have Christmas gifts and wedding stuff to be buying.
As I am going to be out of town this weekend, I'm not sure what's happening with the weigh-in. Honestly I just thought about this right now for the first time. My options are to do it tomorrow morning (eek), do it at my parent's house (not sure there's a scale there) or wait until Sunday when I get home. All good options. I'll see how I feel tomorrow morning.
Until then, readers.

Wacky Wednesday
Good evening, readers!
Normally I don't post on Wednesdays because it's my rest day. But it's been a weird week with Bill gone, so I figured I might as well make it weirder. Might as well call it Wacky Wednesday.
The first thing I have to say is: If I was supposed to buy you a Christmas gift this year, sorry. I have officially given up. I shopped for two hours tonight and bought 1 stocking stuffer for Bill and some laundry detergent because we're almost out. That's it. I'm all out of ideas.
Second, thank you to everyone who came through with ideas for an indoor photo shoot location as a backup for our wedding photos! We've got a couple solid leads now, and I really appreciate it. It definitely made my day much less stressful.
The third thing is that I had a really good day today having Bailey at work with me. I didn't really do much work, I felt, but I got the necessities done and it was nice having a pretty dog to pet. She mostly just slept next to me and greeted all the visitors to my office. But it was very nice.
The fourth thing I must mention is the wonderful gift my Aunt Barb shipped me last week when I had such a terrible Tuesday. She didn't have to, and I really appreciate her thinking of me during hard times. Thank you!
With all the wackiness going on today, I kind of forgot to eat lunch. Well, I ate some of it (and shared it with Bailey) but not as much as I normally do. Because of that I'm really behind on calories. I'm currently eating my avocado on toast with cottage cheese, but I will probably have to supplement that with some chicken or something.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 14100
Calories burned: 2900
Calories consumed: 1100 (so far)
We'll, looks like it's time to watch Hairspray Live and try in vain to find some suitable Christmas gifts!
Until tomorrow, readers.

In Need of a Backup Plan!
Good evening, readers!
Why is it that Tuesdays are always the hardest day of the week? It's like you're so far away from Friday, but you can't even say, "Well at least I had the weekend." I almost dislike them more than Mondays.
Plus, today I had my first wedding freak out in a long, long time.
Remember that long list I made yesterday of things I could be doing? Well I decided to try to tackle one of them during my breaks at work. I'm looking for a backup photography location that is indoors in case the weather is bad. I really want to take photos in Rice Park, but I'll need a plan B in case of rain/snow/wind.
I've contacted or researched a good half-dozen places so far and can't find anything. They're either already booked, aren't open for the hours we need, don't allow photography for large(ish) groups, or make you rent out the space for an exorbitant amount of money. Can someone help me out with this a little bit? I'm starting to worry. How did you deal with this at your wedding? Did you have an indoor backup plan? I know we can take photos at the hotel and in the church, but those aren't the most exciting of locations. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
So far I've contacted:
James J Hill Library
Woodbury Central Park
Landmark Center
Como Conservatory
Union Depot
I'm not having much luck. Do you think the St. Paul Hotel would let us take photos in their lobby? They have a really cool antique-looking lobby.
Since I wasn't having any luck with this I moved on to deciding what to put in my welcome bags. That at least went a little better and I have a good list going. Then I perked up.
Anyway, I ate perfectly today and did my double exercise routine of Zumba and BodyPump. I actually felt like a million bucks by the end of it. My muscles are tired but I still ran to the car to avoid the cold.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 19400
Calories burned: 3420
Calories consumed: 1200 (but I haven't eaten my Halo Top yet, so 1480 total)
Oh the Kowalski's by my house got all the new Halo Top flavors! So far I've tried pistachio (good), and peanut butter cup (amazing) and I'm about to try oatmeal cookie.
Tomorrow is rest day, but I am excited because I get to bring Bailey to work with me! She has a short appointment, and then she gets to hang out in my office with me the rest of the day. After work I plan on trying to do some Christmas shopping, and then I'm going to watch Hairspray Live. Big plans, I know.

Cooking With Gas
Good evening, readers!
Although the title of this post suggests it, I am not actually cooking. Especially not with gas. Sounds like an insurance claim waiting to happen.
What I'm referring to is how much wedding stuff I got done between yesterday and today! You wouldn't even believe me if I told you (which I'm going to do anyway). I think I was having such a hard time finding Christmas gifts that I threw myself into wedding stuff instead.
First, I worked on my paper flowers for a very long time. I'm close to being done, maybe just an hour or two of work left to do on that.
Second, I started working on the gift bags for the hotel guests when they check in.
Third, and maybe most importantly, I ordered our invitations! We just have to wait for the proof to make sure everything is correct and then they will be printed and shipped to us. I can hardly believe it!
Fourth, I bought part of the bridesmaids gifts :)
But now that I make that list of things I did, I'm thinking about all the things I still need to do:

But now that I make that list of things I did, I'm thinking about all the things I still need to do:
- Finish the flowers
- Start my second book-folding project
- Finish the bridesmaids gifts
- Finish the ceremony and make programs
- Finish the gift bags
- Find a backup indoor photo location for group photos between ceremony and reception
- Finish photography checklist and email to photographer
- Decide on songs and buy sheet music for pianist
- Have hair and makeup trial (it's on Saturday!)
- Choreograph the first dance... maybe
- Print and cut RSVP cards and address their envelopes
And that's just the stuff I can do right now. There's a million things that I can't do right now, like seating charts, place cards, invitation addressing...
I thought it would make me feel better to make a list. I was wrong. The only good thing I see from all of this is that I have all of this stuff started, I just need to finish it. But I have to get through the holidays first. And maybe actually buy some gifts. Oy.
Today was a normal Monday, except it started with a Skype call from Bill. Otherwise I went to work, ate well, came home, went to Zumba, and now I'm eating dinner while typing. Pretty normal Monday there.
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 17800
Calories burned: 3200
Calories consumed: 1320
Well, I guess I'm off to try to finish a couple of those bullet points... or, the more pressing issue, buy some gifts!
Until tomorrow, readers.

Weigh In: Week 41
Good evening, readers!
Well, it wasn't terrible. My weigh-in, I mean. I ended up breaking even, which I felt was the best I could have hoped for this week. So I'm still at 41 pounds lost, which means these next three weeks are going to be toughies. There's a holiday in there (a little thing called Christmas) that is going to make it tough to lose the 4 pounds I want to lose before the new year. I'm going to work super hard this week while Bill is gone, though, and try to possibly knock off two pounds this week? Who knows. But I only have until Friday morning, because Friday after work Sam and I are going up to Superior to bake Christmas cookies with my mom!
Today was anything but your typical Saturday for me. I had to bring Bill to the airport early this morning. On the way home he calls me, saying he forgot his work ID (necessary item) so I'm going to have to get it from his car and bring it back to him. I'm almost home when he calls back and tells me it was in his backpack the whole time! So hey, at least I didn't get all the way back to the airport before he found it.
After that I went to the Y for my normal BodyPump/Zumba Saturday morning routine. BodyPump was surprisingly not as difficult as I thought it would be, considering I skipped Thursday's workout. Usually a missed day makes it really difficult, so I'm glad things felt manageable.
With my workouts done and a whole day ahead of me with no plans, I drove across the cities to Minnetonka to visit Chip, Sam, and Bailey. Sam and I went shopping for a while. I had hoped to find some gifts for a few of the people on my list. I ended up buying one gift for someone on my list and like 10 things for myself. Oops. Luckily I was able to knock a couple more people off the list because we decided not to exchange gifts at all. That brings the list down to 8. I have a gift for one, but there's something else I need to buy before I complete the gift. I have ideas for two, and one I have put Bill in charge of buying for. Unfortunately that still leaves 4 people I have to buy for that I have no ideas on! Christmas math is kind of depressing.
After shopping Chip made us baked ziti and garlic bread for dinner. Today I ate like a snake. This morning, after BodyPump, I drank a ton of water and ate a banana. Then I didn't eat or drink anything until dinnertime, where I had a huge meal. I know this can't be good for my metabolism, but I was starving! After dinner we grabbed drinks at Punch Bowl Social, a new bar in West End. The bar was pretty cool, actually, and had tons of games to play (think bowling, foosball, ping-pong, bocce ball, etc).
Today's stats:
Steps taken: 15800
Calories burned: 3150
Calories consumed: ?? Hopefully less than 3150?
As long as my metabolism isn't too screwed up I'm sure my caloric intake was fine.
Tomorrow's big plans consist of working out (maybe twice) and trying to find some Christmas gifts. Or possibly staying in bed all day. Who's around to tell me no?
Until then, readers.
